Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is back with the next film of his Files trilogy, The Bengal Files. After the huge success of The Kashmir Files in 2022, expectations are high. The political drama is set to release on September 5, and advance bookings started on August 31 in major cities.

Exhibitors are hopeful the film could grow in popularity over the next few days, especially if audiences respond positively. The Kashmir Files became a blockbuster mainly due to strong word-of-mouth and emotional storytelling. Trade insiders believe The Bengal Files, with its similar theme, could follow the same path. Online discussions show the film is already drawing attention because of its sensitive subject and Agnihotri’s approach to storytelling.

Can The Bengal Files Match The Kashmir Files?

The Kashmir Files was a massive hit, earning over Rs 340 crore worldwide on a modest budget. It became one of the most profitable films in India.

The big question is whether The Bengal Files can repeat that success. The film has a similar dark and emotional theme, but the audience reaction after release will decide its fate. Experts say its story and emotional impact will play a key role in its box office performance.

Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4 Is The Main Competition

The path for The Bengal Files won’t be easy. It will compete with Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4, a popular action film with a strong fan base. Industry estimates suggest The Bengal Files might open with Rs 2.5–3 crore, while Baaghi 4 could see Rs 8–9 crore on day one. Even though Tiger’s films have had bigger openings in the past – Baaghi 2 (Rs 45 crore) and Baaghi 3 (Rs 30 crore)—this time the start is expected to be more modest.

Both films will be released on September 5, making it a key day at the box office. The Bengal Files will rely on positive word-of-mouth and audience interest to grow beyond its opening. While Baaghi 4 may dominate the early collections due to its mass appeal, Agnihotri’s film could still find its audience if it connects emotionally, just like The Kashmir Files did.
