Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has announced his next film, and his statement may make you wonder if it was aimed at Dhurandhar 2. The Kashmir Files and The Bengal Files director confirmed that he is working on a new movie based on Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Soon after the announcement, his strong focus on TRUTH and FACTS raised questions about whether the remark was an indirect reference to Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2, which has recently been in the news for its portrayal of real events.

The film will be produced under Vivek Agnihotri’s banner I Am Buddha Production along with Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. The director said the story will be based on detailed research and real incidents. Because of this, the statement has created curiosity about whether he was comparing his film with recent movies that claim to be inspired by true stories.

Vivek Agnihotri’s Operation Sindoor Announcement Took A Dig At Dhurandhar 2?

Vivek Agnihotri shared the announcement on his X account and revealed that the film will be based on Lt Gen K.J.S. ‘Tiny’ Dhillon’s book about the operation. He wrote, “Bhushan Kumar and I have joined forces for #OperationSindoor— a story that redefined security in the subcontinent and exposed Pakistan’s nuclear bluff. The film is based on Lt Gen K.J.S. ‘Tiny’ Dhillon’s book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan.”

He also stressed that the project will focus on real events and proper research. “Rooted in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and backed by extensive, ground-level research in collaboration with multiple wings of the Indian Armed Forces, this is a story drawn from reality… not to create noise, but to confront it: with facts, with clarity and the magic of cinema.”

His words have drawn attention because Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 has also been promoted as being inspired by true events. However, the film has faced criticism from some people for using cinematic liberty and dramatic storytelling instead of staying close to real history.

The question became stronger as Vivek Agnihotri was recently in the news for allegedly liking a video that called Dhurandhar 2 propaganda. Soon after that, his statement about making a film “drawn from reality” has led to speculation about whether the filmmaker was indirectly reacting to the ongoing debate. He did not name any film, but the timing has made the comparison difficult to ignore.

Reactions to the announcement have been mixed. One user wrote, “Sir, why don’t u just produce the film and let Aditya Dhar direct it . Sorry to say, but ur style of storytelling is more like a documentary and boring .”

Another commented, “You are not going to make a film, you will just turn it into a dull and dark documentary.”

A third user said, “Another loud, hollow and shameless propaganda piece on the way.”

About Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was a real military strike carried out by India in May 2025 after a terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists. The operation reportedly lasted about 23 minutes and involved precision air and missile strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Reports said that Rafale jets, SCALP missiles, drones, and the S-400 missile defence system were used during the mission.

The strike targeted several major terror headquarters, including bases linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. After a short but intense conflict, both sides agreed to a ceasefire on May 10. Because of its scale and political impact, the operation received wide media coverage and has now become the subject of a feature film.

With the film still in early stages, it remains to be seen whether Operation Sindoor will stay away from controversy.
