Covid-19 cases in India continue to surge

 Daily Covid-19 cases in India has continued their upward trend over the past one week. In the last 24-hour, the country has reported 14,199 new cases on Monday with the overall tally soaring high to 1,10,05,850, health officials said. 83 more deaths have overall toll to 1,56,385, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

As per the Ministry’s data, there are 1,50,055 active cases at present after 9,695 patients were discharged in a day. Till now, 1,06,99,410 persons have been discharged so far. The recovery rate has remained to 97.22 per cent, while the fatality rate is 1.42 per cent.

Over past one month, the country has been recording less than 15,000 new infections daily with the toll not crossing the 200-mark.

On Saturday, 14,264 cases were reported, on February 20, there were 13,993, on February 19, the count of new cases was 13,193, on February 18 it was 12,881, on February 17, the number was 11,610, on February 16 the number was 9,121.

The development in number of cases comes after February 9,when India had reported 9,110 new cases, the lowest this year so far. Last year, the lowest 9,633 cases were recorded on June 3.


A total number of 6,20,216 samples were tested on Sunday. The cumulative tests done by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) so far stands at 21,15,51,746

Meanwhile, more than 1,11,16,854 doses of corona vaccine have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16 after approval for ‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’.

*Telangana reported 114 new Covid cases on Monday, taking the state’s tally to 2,97,712.

*Active Covid cases in Karnataka crossed the 6,000-mark again, with 413 patients testing positive in a day, said the state health bulletin on Sunday.

*South Korea will begin administering Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines to medical staff on February 27, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on Sunday.

*Wipro czar Azim Premji on Sunday urged the Central government to involve private hospitals to speed up the anti-Covid vaccination drive across the country.

*The Covid-19 vaccination is picking up speed in Austria due to growing delivery quantities, the country’s Health Minister Rudolf Anschober said on Sunday.

*The Philippines has officially approved the emergency use of China’s Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, the country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Monday.

The total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 111.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.46 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
