India reported fresh 81,484 covid-19 infections in last 24-hour which took country’s total caseload to 6,471,734. With 1,069 casualties in 24 hours, India became only third country to cross 100,000 milestone of Covid-related death.
Only the United States and Brazil have recorded more deaths than India. More than 2.12 lakh people have lost their lives in the US, and about 1.45 lakh people succumbed to the virus in Brazil.
In a positive outlook, India has maintained highest recovery rate across the world with recoveries crossing 53 lakh mark.
India has lately become one of the top contributors of one day deaths in global tally. On an average, the country is responsible for 20 percent of global deaths daily.
September was the worst month of India’s coronavirus phase with country reporting over 1,000 deaths every day.
Meanwhile, India’s case fatality ratio has shrunk in the past three months. CFR further fell from 1.76 per cent to 1.56 per cent in September.
Maharashtra remains the worst hit state of the country by the coronavirus infection. Not only the state is responsible for most number of covid-19 cases, but is also accountable for 40 per cent of India’s total deaths.
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are behind Maharashtra to contribute most number of deaths with both the states recording more than 9,000 deaths.

- Maharashtra former CM Devendra Fadnavis in a letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray requested him to prevent hoarding and black marketing of Remedsivir injection.
“The state is witnessing a scarcity of Remdesivir injection. Due to this, high demand and unavailability of the injection are making the situation worse for poor people,” Fadnavis stated.
- North Korea leader Kim Jong-un on Friday wished speedy recovery from Covid-19 infection. “He sincerely hoped that they (Donald and Melania Trump) would be recovered as soon as possible. He hoped they will surely overcome it. He sent warm greetings to them,” the Korean Central News Agency reported.
- After President Trump tested positive for covid-19 infection, White House begun contact tracing to pin down the chain of infection.
- US Republican Senator Mike Lee on Friday that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus after visiting the White House several days ago.
Meanwhile, the global covid-19 tally currently stands at 34,817,275. While 25,879,985 have recovered, 1,032,708 casualties have been reported so far.
