Covid-19 update: India records 53,570 cases, 650 deaths in last 24-hour

India recorded fresh new 53,370 cases of covid-19 in last 24-hour, taking country’s total tally to 78.14 lakh. With 650 fresh deaths, the fatality toll has reached 1,17,956.

70,16,046 people have so far recuperated from the virus, pushing the national recovery rate to 89.78, the health ministry said in its latest update. Currently, there are 6,80,680 active cases of covid-19 in the country which consists of 8.71 per cent of the total caseload, the data added.

Maintaining a steady decline, the covid-19 fatality rate has further dropped to 1.51 per cent.

According to ICMR, a cumulative total of 10,13,82,564 samples have been tested up to October 23, with 12,69,479 samples tested on Friday.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed the 42 million mark, while the deaths have soared to 1,143,290, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Saturday morning, the total number of cases stood at 42,114,524, while the death toll surged to 1,143,291, it said.
