Covid-19 Update: India records 63,83,441 cases, 895 deaths in last 24-hour

India registered fresh new 63,83,441 cases in last 24-hour, taking total tally past 73.-7 mark. With 895 new deaths, the fatality count has reached to 1,12,161.

India reports 63,371 new Covid-19 cases and 895 deaths in the last 24 hours, says ministry of health and family welfare

Total case tally stands at 73,70,469 including 8,04,528 active cases, 64,53,780 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 1,12,161 deaths.

The death rate is 1.5 per cent. “India continues to have one of the lowest deaths per million population globally,” the Health Ministry tweeted this morning.

The recovery rate in the country has reached past 87.6 per cent.

Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh remained the five worst hit states by the covid-19 pandemic. These states accounted 55 per cent of total covid-19 infection in the last 24-hour.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 9,12,26,305 samples have been tested up to October 14 with 11,36,183 samples being tested on Wednesday.

Here are more updates on coronavirus:

*Health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that India is expected to have a vaccine in six month. He also emphasised that herd immunity is not an option for a country as big as India.

*Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for higher preparedness against the coivd-19 pandemic. He also asked health authorities to intentsify testing process and sero surveys.

*India has started to report other seasonal diseases such as dengue, malaria along with covid-19 infection.

*Remdesivir, among the first antiviral medicines used to treat critically ill coronavirus patients, had little or no effect on COVID-19 patients’, the World Health Organization(WHO) said.

*Veteran singer Kumar Sanu has tested positive for the covid-19 infection on Thursday.

*US coronavirus cases surpass eight million as infections spike nationwide, said reuters in its report.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has reached past 38.8 million, while the fatality toll has reached 1,097,180, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Friday morning, the total number of cases stood at 38,833,032 and the fatalities increased to 1,097,189, the University said.
