Covid-19 update: India records 86,821 fresh cases

India on Wednesday registered 86,821 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total tally past 6.3-million mark. The country’s death toll has reached 98,708 with 1,179 new fatalities.

Total case tally stands at 63,12,585 including 9,40,705 active cases, 52,73,202 cured/discharged/migrated and 98,678 deaths: Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

India’s recovery rate has maintained a steady progress and touched 83.33 on Wednesday.
A total of 7,56,19,781 samples tested up to 30th September, for Covid-19. Of these, 14,23,052 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

Here’re some more updates related to coronavirus:

*Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday announced that the penalty for not wearing a mask in public places has been hiked to Rs 1,000 in urban areas of the state while it is Rs 500 in rural areas.

*The International Monetary Fund(IMF) on Wednesday said it had approved a $6.5 billion loan for Ecuador to help the country suffering severely due to coronavirus pandemic.

*Delhi High Court slammed the state government to not accelerate its RT-PCR testing. “As against testing capacity of 15,000 through RT-PCR&other similar tests per day available in Delhi, actual no. of tests being conducted through this mode is still around 11,000 tests/day on an average,” Court said.

*September was worst month for India as the country reported 41 per cent of its cases and 34 per cent of total deaths in last 30 days.

*Relaxing further restrictions, Singapore will allow travelers from more countries. Entry to travellers from Vietnam and Australia, excluding its coronavirus hot spot Victoria state, will begin next week.

Covid-19 vaccine update:

*Vaccine candidate Moderna Inc has said that its potential vaccine will not be ready to apply for emergency authorization before the US presidential election in November.

*Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine review will start in Europe as soon as this week. The move would be a key step forward for the vaccine candidate.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus has surpassed 33.8 million, while the deaths have increased to nearly 1,012,900, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Thursday, the total number of cases stood at 33,874,283 and the fatalities rose to 1,012,894.
