Covid-19 update: India reports 8,635 cases of coronavirus in last 24-hour, lowest single daily toll in one month

India has logged in 8,635 new cases of covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours, its lowest daily in nearly eight months, as per the latest data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

In yet another major development, the country recorded just 94 deaths in the last 24-hour.

India had last recorded its lowest daily total on June 2 when just 8,171 cases were reported.

The country’s overall tally has reached at 1,07,66,245 infections since January 30 year when the country reported its first case in Kerala.

A total of 19,77,52,057 samples tested for Covid-19 up to 1st February. Of these, 6,59,422 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research.

The National Capital recorded just three deaths from covid-19 on Monday, the lowest daily toll in nearly nine months. Meanwhile, the daily cases too remained below the 121 while the positivity rate was nearly 0.3 per cent.

Here’re some more updates:

*Covid-19 vaccine maker Bharat Biotech on Monday welcomed allocation of Rs 35,000 crore for Covid vaccination in Union Budget 2021-22, terming it a “great” and “far-reaching step”.

*The health sector on Monday hailed the Union Budget 2021-22 for increased allocation to the sector and new schemes.

*Top officials of the European Union (EU) held discussions with drug giants about the rapid development and production of vaccines specially against the new variants of the coronavirus.

*The coronavirus death toll in Brazil increased by 595 in the past day to top 225,000, the country’s Ministry of Health said in a statement. 

*About 1,500 of the initial volunteers in a late-stage clinical trial of the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine were given the wrong dose, but weren’t informed that a mistake had been made after the blunder was discovered, documents obtained by Reuters show.

Meanwhile, the total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 103.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.23 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
