Covid-19 update: India’s active cases are now below 7 lakh

With 54,366 new Covid-19 infections, India’s total cases reached to 77,61,312. With 690 new deaths, the fatality toll soared high to 1,17,306.

The number of recoveries have crossed 69 lakh, while the number of reported cases showed steady decline for sixth consecutive day. Total number of cured cases are 69,48,497 with 73,979 new discharges in last 24 hours, the health ministry informed.

Total 10,01,13,085 samples tested for Covid-19 up to 22nd October. Of these, 14,42,722 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

*India’s cumulative Positivity Rate is 7.81% and the daily figure is 3.8%: Ministry of health

*US President Donald Trump on Thursday said that a Covid-19 vaccine is “ready” and going to be announced “within weeks” to curb the virus spread.

*After receiving permission from the concerned authorities, Vishnu Avatar Ramleela Committee organised Ramleela in North East Shastri Park while following Covid-19 guidelines.

* Remdesivir became the first drug for treating Covid after it got approval from FDA on Thursday.

*Delhi reports 3,882 new Covid-19 and 35 deaths in last 24 hours, taking tally to 3,44,318.

*JNU will reopen from November 2 in a phased manner.

“University will be opened in a phased manner with effect from Monday in view of the pandemic situation, only for final year PhD Research scholars, including 98 students and project staff who require laboratory access only in science schools and special centres,” said the statement issued by JNU administration.

*Active cases of Covid-19 in India have fallen below 10 per cent while the positivity rate of the disease was reported below 5 per cent in the last three days, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has increased to 41.5 million, while the deaths have soared to 1,135,880, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Friday morning, the total number of cases stood at 41,595,980, while the death toll surged to 1,135,880, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
