Covid-19 update: India’s tally crosses 67 lakh mark

India recorded fresh 72,409 cases in last 24-hour, taking the total tally to 67.57 lakh. With 986 deaths reported in a single-day, the overall fatality tally currently stands at at 1,04,555.

Total case tally stands at 67,57,132 including 9,07,883 active cases, 57,44,694 cured/discharged/migrated cases & 1,04,555 deaths: Union Health Ministry.

11,99,857 samples tested for Covid-19 on 6th October. Total 8,22,71,654 samples tested in the country up to 6th October: ICMR.

The national positivity rate currently stands at 85.92 per cent, the latest data from the health ministry revealed. The COVID-19 case mortality rate has further declined to 1.55 per cent in the country.

There are 9,07,883 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 13.44 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

*President Donald Trump is symptom-free since returning to the White House from a hospitalization for Covid-19, his official doctor said Tuesday.

*India to operate two more Vande Baharat from Delhi to Chinese city of Guangzhou on October 23 and 30.

*Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora has tested positive for Covid-19 and has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.

*Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu tested positive for Covid-19

*In 95 cases of deaths of healthcare workers engaged in Covid-19 duties, insurance has been claimed for Rs 50 lakhs each. 176 claims are in process. In addition, 79 claims yet to be received from different states: Rajesh Bhushan, Health Ministry secretary.

*Democrat Joe Biden said on Tuesday he would not participate in debate if Donald Trump still has covid-19 rampant in his body next week.

Covid-19 vaccine update:


*WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Tuesday, said that there is still hope that a vaccine against covid-19 vaccine may be ready by the year-end.

*A Chinese experimental coronavirus vaccine being developed by the Institute of Medical Biology under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences showed positive results in early stage clinical trial, researchers said.

*The Drugs Controller General of India has given permission for conducting Phase-1 human clinical trial for an “antisera”. The vaccine was being developed by injecting inactivated SARS-CoV-2 in horses.
