Health Minister expresses concern over covid surge, says ‘people not taking appropriate behaviour’

In the past few weeks, India has witnessed an unexpected growth in number of daily coronavirus cases. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Singh on Monday said that people’s ignorance to maintain the covid appropriate behaviour has led to the surge.

“Around 85 per cent of cases are in five to six states. The main reason behind the increase in cases is people not taking covid appropriate behaviour,” news agency ANI quoted the health minister as saying.

On Saturday, the minister had highlighted that India was ahead of many parameters as compared to many countries across the world with regard to its fight against the deadly virus. In view of the recent surge in the number of cases, he had also urged all the citizens to follow the guidelines issued by the Minsitry of Health and Family Welfare.

He also reiterated that everyone should adhere to maintaining social distancing and must not forget to wear masks.

Meanwhile, India on Monday reported  26,291 new Covid-19 disease cases and 118 more related fatalities which pushed the caseload and death toll to more than 11.38 million and 158,725 respectively, according to the health ministry’s latest update.
