AIIMS Doctor Stroke Warning: A sudden sensation of numbness in the hand or face may seem harmless at first. Many people brush it off as tiredness, stress or a minor nerve problem. However, medical experts caution that these signs can sometimes point to a serious underlying condition.

A recent video shared by an AIIMS doctor has brought fresh attention to stroke awareness. The message highlights the dangers of ignoring early symptoms and warns against self-medication without proper medical evaluation.

AIIMS Doctor Stroke Warning: Why Aspirin Is Not Always Safe

In an Instagram video, AIIMS doctor Priyanka Sehrawat explained why taking aspirin during certain neurological symptoms can be dangerous. She noted that aspirin acts as a blood thinner and is often used to manage conditions linked to blood clots. However, she pointed out that not every stroke is caused by clotting.

Dr Sehrawat described symptoms such as sudden paralysis, numbness, tingling, and difficulty closing the fist as possible warning signs of a stroke. She emphasised that these symptoms should never be ignored or self-treated.

She also clarified that strokes occur in two main types. One type is caused by a blocked blood vessel, known as an ischaemic stroke. The other type happens when a blood vessel ruptures, which is called a haemorrhagic stroke. This difference is crucial because the treatments for these two conditions are very different.

The doctor warned that taking a blood thinner like aspirin when there is even a small internal bleed can worsen the haemorrhage. This can significantly aggravate the patient’s condition and lead to more severe complications.

Recognising Stroke Symptoms And Acting Fast

The doctor emphasised that stroke-like symptoms require immediate medical attention. She warned that delaying evaluation can result in serious complications and long-term damage.

She explained that taking a blood thinner when there is even a minor internal bleed can make the haemorrhage worse. This may lead to a major stroke, severe paralysis, seizures or even loss of consciousness. As a result, the patient’s condition can rapidly deteriorate.

Dr Sehrawat also urged people not to wait at home if they notice signs of paralysis or sudden neurological changes. She stressed that acting quickly and seeking medical care without delay significantly improves the chances of recovery.
