8th Pay Commission-Turn Of Events
During the meeting, officials discussed fitment factor of approximately 3.83, restoration of the old pension system and a minimum basic pay of Rs. 69,000.
DON'T MISS
Officials urged that the existing gender discrimination between men and women must be eradicated. Presently, calculations were based on units where a man was 1 and a woman was 0.8. Moreover, children must be treated as full units and parents of the employee should also be included in the family unit. Officials cited both legal obligations under the Senior Citizens Act and social realities.
Increments, Allowances And Promotions
The staff side also made requests for allowances such as house rent allowances, transport and others to be hiked by up to 3 times, annual increment increase to 8 percent from 3 percent and the restoration of earlier promotion-linked advantages.
Meeting members also proposed that the pay commission cycle must be reduced from 10 to 5 years, just like in the banking and other sectors. It was also remarked that the existing working conditions in certain government departments were not up to the mark and need dramatic changes. For instance, thousands of employees die in railways every year due to unavoidable risks and hardships. Employee representatives urged for proper allowances.
It is believed that the 8th CPC would submit its report by the month of May 2027 and the 8th Pay Commission may finally be a reality by 2028 or 2029. However, all eligible existing and retired government employees and pensioners would receive the outstanding dues as arrears in their respective bank accounts.
