Ahead Diwali, Delhi Air Quality Remains Poor

For Delhiites, the danger of pollution increases every year with Diwali. But in the areas of Delhi-NCR including the national capital, the air quality is deteriorating continuously even before Diwali. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no hope of getting relief from the deteriorating level of pollution at the moment. In view of the increasing pollution in Delhi-NCR, respiratory patients are being warned to be alert that they should leave their homes only when necessary. Poisonous air can be fatal for patients.

Why Delhiites are not getting relief from pollution

The air quality in Delhi has also been recorded in the poor category today (Saturday) morning. There is still a day left for Diwali and the air quality in Noida too has reached a very poor level. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that the air quality is not expected to improve for the next two days. According to the Meteorological Department, if more firecrackers are burst on the occasion of Diwali, then the situation may worsen.

According to the Meteorological Department, at present the pollution due to stubble is only 3 to 4 percent. More than 50 percent of pollution is due to dust and fumes from vehicles. Due to the increasing cold and sluggish wind speed, the pollution is not going away. Because of this, heart and respiratory patients are being advised to leave their homes only when necessary.

Why Delhi’s air is getting poisonous?

The question is that if the pollution caused by stubble in Delhi has come down, then how is the poison filling the air. The reason for this is the slow speed of the wind. The Meteorological Department says that due to the slow speed of the wind, the effect of toxic air will continue in Delhi-NCR. Today, the speed of winds coming from the north-east direction in Delhi will be 5-10 km per hour. The wind speed will be 4 km per hour on 23 October. At the same time, on October 24 also, the wind speed will remain 5 kilometers per hour. The wind speed should be more than 10 kilometers per hour to remove pollution.

With the poor air level in Delhi, the era of restrictions has started. Apart from this, many measures are also being taken. In the emergency meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management, it has been decided to implement the second phase of the Graded Response Action Plan ie GRAP. Under this, roads will be cleaned every day to reduce pollution. Whereas water will be sprinkled every other day. Coal or tandoor will not be used in hotels or restaurants. Diesel generator will not be used anywhere except in places like hospital, rail service, metro service. There will be an emphasis on making maximum use of public transport. At the same time, smog towers have been installed in crowded areas.

Restrictions will increase in Delhi?

Delhi’s pollution is likely to increase after Diwali. In such a situation, according to the GRAP, restrictions will remain in force in Delhi and from November 28, the campaign of “Red Light, On Car Off” will start by the Delhi Government. At present this program will run for 1 month. For this 2500 Civil Defense Volunteers will be engaged. For this 100 big intersections will be selected.
