Due to ongoing war between India and Pakistan, the Indian government has temporarily suspended many flights at various airports up to 15th May 2025. This step is taken by the government as a safety measure.
Why Various Airports Are Closed?
• There is continuous attack by Pakistan through drones and missiles on India and India is doing counter attack in order of defense, the airports are not safe. Drone attacks were seen in Avantipora, Nagrota, Baramulla, Srinagar, Jammu, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Barmer, Bhuj, Pathankot, Jaisalmer, Lalgarh Jatta and Kuwarbet. Army’s vigilance and air defense system have been toughened in these areas.
• Indian government, as a safety measure, decided to close 32 airports in north and west India for the time being. This decision has been issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
• As per DGCA, all civil flight services from these airports will be temporarily suspended from immediate effect till 15th May 2025. These measures have been taken merely on the basis of safety and functioning reasons.
• The Government of India has confirmed that the security of the country is priority and any kind of terrorist activities will be given a suitable response.
Affected Airports Due To This Order
As per senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, this step is part of the strategy to safeguard against any probable air threat like missile or drone attacks. Various drone activities have been seen at multiple locations near the border areas. Some of these were also doubted to be carry explosives. The reasons behind these drones are assumed to harm India’s military bases or strategic civilian sites. As per government sources, this closure is momentary and can be stretched or stopped as per the situation. All airlines and charter operators are guided to plan their flights opting alternative routes and airports and to provide prior information to passengers.
• The major affected airports are: Pathankot, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bhuj, Bikaner Amritsar, Srinagar, Jammu, Avantipura, Hindon, Ambala, Chandigarh, Leh, Shimla, Kullu, etc.
• These airports are located in border areas or strategically important areas, where chances of the potential threats are very high.
• 25 major air traffic service routes falling in Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Region (FIR) are also closed. The objective is to confirm that the air route is completely in the hand of the army and there is no risk to civilian flights.
• This decision will affect thousands of passengers but this step has been in the national interest
Indian government ordered to close many airports in various part of the country specially border areas to safeguard the nation and its people for any possible threats as Pakistan is continuously sending drones in these areas.
