Amid Reports Of Termination, Rajdeep Sardesai Says ‘News Men Never Retire’ In India Today’s Official Announcement Video
Rajdeep Sardesai responds to firing rumours from India Today following his remarks on Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He vows to keep delivering credible news on his popular prime-time show.
Rumours spread quickly online that veteran journalist Rajdeep Sardesai was fired from India Today. This buzz grew after he made controversial comments about Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and the Line of Control (LoC).
Sardesai suggested India should consider recognising the LoC as the international border and cede PoJK to Pakistan. He made these remarks following the Pahalgam terror attack, which sparked sharp criticism. Many accused him of undermining India’s national security.
Rajdeep Sardesai Dismisses Firing Rumours
Sardesai responded directly to the rumours on May 27, 2025 during his News Today show. He posted a heartfelt video on India Today’s official YouTube channel.
In the video, he is heard saying, “I would like to make a personal major announcement today. So, let me say it loud and clear. I turned 60 three days ago. It’s normally the age for retirement. But newsmen really never retire. My commitment to the news in 2025 is the same as it was when I joined this profession, which I treat as a passion and a journey, 37 years ago in 1988. For the last 11 years, I have been with you here on India Today every night at 9:00 PM. We have hopefully built a relationship based on trust. I hope to continue that relationship with just one motto: news without the noise, sense not sensation, credibility not chaos. What can I say? Thank you for your love, loyalty, and for watching the show, which is the number one prime time show on English news channels."

India Today’s official X account (formerly Twitter) also dispelled the rumours by promoting Sardesai’s News Today broadcasts as recently as May 27. Neither Sardesai nor the channel has issued any statement about his termination. This confirms the firing rumours are not "true".
Here's How The Firing Rumour Started
Let us tell you, the gossip started from unverified social media posts. A tweet by ABP News journalist Megha Prasad fuelled speculation but did not name Sardesai directly. Following her post, Several other social media handles began posting about his termination.
For the unversed, Rajdeep Sardesai has faced a lot of controversies before. In 2021, he was briefly suspended for allegedly sharing misinformation. Despite this, he remains a key figure in Indian journalism. His prime time show continues to be India Today’s top English news programme, which indicates that his influence remains strong.
