Atishi Marlena, Aam Aadmi Party Leader, took the oath as Delhi’s chief minister on Saturday at a ceremony held at Raj Niwas. She has held the most portfolios in the Arvind Kejriwal cabinet, found herself elevated to the top post after Kejriwal announced his resignation last week. The oath was administered by the Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
Key AAP Ministers Sworn In Alongside Atishi Marlena
Other who was sworn as ministers were key members of the AAP government, namely Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat. Another touching moment during the swearing-in function was when Atishi’s parents, Tripta Wahi and Vijay Singh, came to Raj Niwas to witness their daughter become a part of history.
The oath ceremony was attended by Atishi before that, who was given AAP National Convenor and outgoing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal is one of Delhi’s most-well-known politicians making a gesture of appearance in her oath-taking ceremony.
The Third Woman and Youngest CM of Delhi
Atishi Marlena is the third woman who had occupied this position in the history of Delhi after Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj at the end. She shall also be the youngest Chief Minister for the national capital. Her government is soon to face the first major test when she would have to win the floor test in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The two-day session of the Assembly is scheduled for September 26-27, wherein she is expected to win the confidence of the House.
Atishi’s Impressive Background and Arvind Kejriwal’s Resignation
Atishi the newly elected MLA from Kalkaji was handling 13 departments-the highest for any minister in the Delhi government. Earlier, she served as an advisor to the former Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, from 2015 to 2018. Kejriwal resigned from office only weeks after he was released from jail. He announced his resignation on September 15, 2024, and also called for an early Assembly election, urging the people of Delhi to decide whether the AAP government remains the most honest option for governance in the capital.
