BJP’s Rahul Narwekar elected Maharashtra Assembly Speaker

Rahul Narwekar, a first-time MLA, is the new Maharashtra assembly speaker. Narwekar was elected as the speaker, a year after the post fell vacant due to the resignation of Nana Patole who stepped down to become Maharashtra Congress president.

The newly formed Shiv Sena-BJP government will face the floor test on July 4.

Rahul Narvekar of BJP on Sunday won the Speaker election with a majority of 164 votes. Narvekar defeated Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena’s candidate Rajan Salvi who bagged 107 votes.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were among the other MLAs in the state Assembly who cast their votes.
