CM Yogi Adityanath Warns of Neglecting Small Issues Amid Nepal Crisis, Stresses Preparedness

The protests—largely led by Generation Z students—initially began against a social media ban but quickly expanded to target Oli’s administration over issues of corruption and misrule

CM Yogi Adityanath: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in his first reaction to the unfolding political crisis in Nepal, cautioned against overlooking seemingly minor issues, warning that they can spiral into major problems. He made these remarks during the fifth convocation ceremony of the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow on Saturday.

“You must have seen what happened in Nepal. People ignored social media and now look at the consequences. The situation they are facing now shows how such neglect can disrupt development and progress, and create widespread confusion,” Adityanath said. He further stressed, “Things that appear small, they collectively later bring a big problem.”

The Chief Minister urged everyone to pay close attention to small issues and act proactively so that such crises do not recur elsewhere. “We have to prepare ourselves according to the new situation,” he added, underlining the importance of vigilance and timely action.

Nepal Political Crisis Escalates

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Nepal’s new Prime Minister Sushila Karki, emphasizing India’s commitment to the peace, progress, and prosperity of the people of Nepal. The Indian government welcomed the formation of an interim government in Nepal led by former chief justice Sushila Karki, expressing hope that it will lead to peace and stability in the neighboring country.

Karki, an anti-corruption activist, became Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister after being chosen by student groups whose protests led to the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The protests—largely led by Generation Z students—initially began against a social media ban but quickly expanded to target Oli’s administration over issues of corruption and misrule.

Oli’s resignation came after a police crackdown on protesters resulted in more than 20 deaths and hundreds of injuries. However, violence continued even after Oli stepped down. Mobs went on a rampage across Kathmandu and several other cities, setting official buildings—including the Parliament and residences of political leaders—on fire. In total, more than 50 people were killed before the situation was brought under control by the army.

Regional Implications

CM Yogi Adityanath’s remarks highlight the potential risks of ignoring small but critical signs of unrest. His call for greater awareness and preparedness reflects concerns over regional stability and the importance of maintaining democratic and social harmony.

India’s close diplomatic ties with Nepal remain steadfast, as New Delhi continues to monitor the situation and support Nepal’s path toward stability and democratic governance.
