Dalai Lama Apologises for Controversial Action, ‘I Often Tease People in an Innocent and Playful Way’

Dalai Lama: In response to criticism over a video showing the Dalai Lama kissing a child on the lips and telling him to “suck my tongue” during a public gathering, the Dalai Lama has issued an apology. The boy’s family received an apology from the 87-year-old spiritual leader, who also admitted that he “often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way.

Dalai Lama Tweet said, “A video clip has been circulating that shows a recent meeting when a young boy asked His Holiness the Dalai Lama if he could give him a hug. His Holiness wishes to apologise to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused. His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras. He regrets the incident.”

If a female Dalai Lama comes, she should be more attractive- Dalai Lama

In 2019, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate apologised for his contentious statement that if a woman were to succeed him, “she should be attractive.” He told the BBC in an interview that “if a female Dalai Lama comes, she should be more attractive.” The Dalai Lama appointed an eight-year-old Mongolian boy born in the United States as the 10th Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoche, the third highest position in Tibetan Buddhism, last month.
