Delhi News: The Supreme Court has given a big order in the 1996 Lajpat Nagar blast case of Delhi. The court has ordered to keep the 4 convicts in jail for life. 13 people were killed and 38 were injured in the Lajpat Nagar blast. The Supreme Court has sentenced Mohammad Naushad, Mirza Nisar Hussain, Mohammad Ali Bhatt and Javed Ahmed Khan to life imprisonment.
The four convicts are members of the Jammu and Kashmir Islamic Front. Mirza Nisar Hussain and Mohammad Ali Bhatt were acquitted by the Delhi High Court in 2012. Now the Supreme Court asked both to surrender immediately.

Mohammad Naushad and Javed Ahmed Khan are in jail since 1996.When did the bomb blast happen in Lajpat Nagar?On 21 May 1996, there was a blast in the busy Lajpat Nagar market of Delhi at 6.30 pm. Naushad, Nisar and Mohammad Ali Bhatt were sentenced to death by the lower court in 2010 in the case. Javed Ahmed Khan was sentenced to life imprisonment. On 22 November 2012, the Delhi High Court acquitted Nisar and Bhatt.
The High Court upheld Javed’s sentence and changed Naushad’s death sentence to life imprisonment.Case heard today after ten years. The appeal of the Delhi Police pending since 2013 was heard this year. Today, a bench of Justices BR Gavai, Vikram Nath and Sanjay Karol gave its verdict. The judges found the four guilty of murder and conspiracy, besides sections of the Explosive Substances Act.
The judges have said that no concession can be done to these culprits who take the lives of innocent people. The Supreme Court has also expressed regret that the security situation in a busy market situated in the heart of the city was so poor.The judges have expressed apprehension that some influential people might have played a role in the case, but they got away because of lax investigation by the police.
