Delhi on High Alert Ahead of G-20 Summit with Massive Security Deployment

To ensure the security of the summit, all schools and government offices in Delhi have been instructed to remain closed from September 8 to 10

Delhi is bracing itself for the G-20 summit, set to take place next week, with the city on high alert. Approximately 1,30,000 security personnel will be deployed as India prepares to host a prestigious guest list for this flagship event during its year-long G20 presidency.

To ensure the security of the summit, all schools and government offices in Delhi have been instructed to remain closed from September 8 to 10. Additionally, banks, financial institutions, and commercial establishments in the New Delhi district will also be shuttered during this period, according to official sources.

1.3 lakh security personnel appointment

Specially-trained male and female commandos from the paramilitary force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) will be responsible for the protection of the spouses of the dignitaries attending the summit, as per reports.

The two-day summit, commencing on September 9, will witness the presence of prominent leaders, including US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Bin Salman. Chinese President Xi Jinping is anticipated to be absent from the meeting, according to sources. Additionally, leaders from countries such as Japan, Australia, France, and Germany are expected to participate. Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend in person but will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
