Delhi weather update: Yellow alert for Delhi-NCR, no heatwave till June 4

Delhi Weather update: After battling with scorching heat, Delhi-NCR has witnessed a respite from heatwave for past 3-4 days, courtesy of hailstroms, gutsy winds and scattered rainfalls. The national capital and its adjoining areas were welcomed with light showers on Monday. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted similar weather for Tuesday. With a strong possibility of thunderstorms in Delhi-NCR, due to which a yellow alert has been issued for Delhi-NCR. The rainy season is expected to continue for the next two days, and the temperature may rise after Wednesday.

Yellow alert for Delhi-NCR

After light showers in Delhi-NCR on Sunday, the IMD issued a fresh yellow for the region. “Light rain and thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40 kilometres per hour are expected towards the evening and night at few places,” the IMD forecast said.

Tempeature drop in Delhi-NCR

Delhi’s primary weather station, the Safdarjung Obersvatory, recorded the maximum temperature of 35.7°C — five degrees below normal. According to IMD, the national capital has recoded 86.7 mm rainfall in the month of May this year. On an average, Delhi records 19.7 mm of rainfall the whole month. 

No heatwave till June 4

According to the IMD, there is a possibility of thunderstorms in Delhi for the next 3-4 days. On Monday, the maximum and minimum temperature is expected to settle lower than the previous day’s numbers after the fresh spell of rain showers in the Capital City and its adjoining areas.

The IMD has also predicted a fresh western disturbance that will bring gusty winds, rain, and even hail to some places on Monday and Tuesday. the temperature is expected to remain below 40 degrees Celsius till June 4.
