Dipu Chandra Das: A Hindu man was lynched in Bangladesh following the death of prominent July Uprising leader Sharif Osman Hadi, who succumbed to gunshot injuries while receiving treatment in Singapore.
Dipu Chandra Das, a young garment factory worker who was living as a tenant in the Dubalia Para area of Bhaluka Upazila, was lynched in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. This was after he was accused of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, Das had merely said, “All religions are equal and God is one, known by different names.” It was considered “derogatory to Islam” by radical Islamists.
Mob allegedly tied Das to a tree and continued beating him to death. Das was later set on fire, his body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
The mob was heard throughout chanting slogans of “Nare Takbeer Allahu Akbar” meaning God is great.
No case has been filed in Bangladesh over the incident so far. Bhaluka Police Station Duty Officer Ripon Mia said legal action will be taken in accordance with the law once a case is filed.
BJP Questions Bangladesh After Dipu Chandra Das’s Death
In a tweet on X, BJP West Bengal remarked this is how Hindus in Bangladesh are getting lynched, hanged and burnt. It added this is not an isolated incident and added that even the Indian state of West Bengal had seen the same fate for Hindus like Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das.
Bangladesh in Turmoil
Bangladesh has been on an edge ever since Muhammad Yunus, the country’s chief advisor, confirmed the death of Hadi in a televised address. Yunus had remarked the fearless frontline fighter of the July Uprising and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha is no more among us. Yunus said strict action would be taken against the killers while asking the citizens to maintain restraint.
