Dussehra 2022: Ravan Dahan with just a click? Students in UP develop new technology | Watch Video

Dussehra 2022: Every day, technological advances astound us all. The nation is currently in a festive spirit, and some students in Uttar Pradesh have discovered a creative technique to burn the effigy of Ravana in advance of Dussehra.

According to news agency ANI, B.Tech students at the Institute of Technology and Management in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, came up with this clever technique for burning the effigy. The students’ demonstration was captured on video, which has also been distributed. A few feet tall “Ravana” effigy can be seen being set ablaze by one of the students with the help of their instructors in a matter of seconds.

In the video, it can be seen that the effigy is remotely connected to another gadget by a wire. When the student hits the button, a “boom” sound is made, and then the effigy is quickly enveloped in smoke and flames.

Production has reduced, Artistans affected the most

On Dussehra, worshipers recall Lord Rama, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, and the epic Ramayana by seeing the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and his son Meghnad burn in flames as a symbol of the victory of good over evil. In order to witness one of the main events of the Dussehra celebration, colourful effigies are made by artisans and attract a great deal of attention when people arrive in large quantities on the last day.

After two years of lockdown due to the coronavirus, this Dussehra marks the first time that demand for effigies during the festival has marginally increased. According to a report by news agency PTI, artisans have reduced production from roughly 60–100 pieces per vendor before the introduction of Covid to 20–30 pieces at the moment.
