Former PM Manmohan Singh diagnosed with dengue

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been diagnosed with dengue, but his health condition is gradually improving and is out of danger, an AIIMS official said.

The official said that the former Prime Minister`s “platelets are increasing and is out of danger now”. The veteran Congress leader was admitted to the AIIMS on October 13 after he complained of fever and weakness.

Singh has been admitted to a private ward in the cardio-neuro centre of the hospital and is under the care of a team of cardiologists led by Dr Nitish Naik.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya met Singh on Thursday and enquired about his health. A row erupted after Mandaviya’s visit as he allegedly took a photographer with him while visiting the former prime minister.

Manmohan Singh’s daughter, Daman Singh, had hit out at Mandaviya for getting a photographer against the wishes of the family.

The Congress party has demanded an apology from Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for clicking a picture while visiting the former PM in AIIMS.

Meanwhile, several political leaders and other dignitaries including Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, former Union Minister Ashwani Kumar, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Congress leader Mukul Wasnik, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi, former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi and NCP’s Nawab Malik have been visiting the premier health institute since Dr Singh got admitted.

PM Modi also wished the former PM and Congress veteran a speedy recovery on his Twitter account.
