Former Union Minister RCP Singh set to join BJP, JDU demands corruption answers

Ramchandra Prasad Singh: Former Union Minister Ramchandra Prasad (RCP) Singh is expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. Singh left the Janata Dal United (JDU) as the party demanded an answer on allegations of corruption made against him. RCP Singh is scheduled to formally join the BJP in New Delhi. The party had asked him to explain every immovable property (plot of land) that his family members had registered in their names over the course of the previous nine years, from 2013 to 2022.

After receiving a notification from the JDU over suspicions of corruption, RCP Singh left the organisation. After resigning, he declared that “Nitish Kumar will not become Prime Minister in any of his seven lives” and called the JDU a “sinking ship.” The party employees said that between 2013 and 2022, “huge property” was accumulated in the names of Singh and his family.

JDU’s allegations Pushed RCP Singh to Join BJP

After the party denied him a third straight term in the Rajya Sabha, RCP Singh, previously the chief minister’s confidante, resigned from his position as a union minister on July 6. Nitish Kumar had reportedly been “unhappy with RCP Singh ever since he joined the central government without his consent,” according to sources. Former IAS official from the Uttar Pradesh cadre Singh, who was on central deputation at the time, was reported to have the strongest grip over the party after Nitish Kumar and was close to him. After he accepted the ministry job without the chief minister’s authorization — and due to his alleged allegiance to the BJP — his relationship with Nitish Kumar deteriorated. Singh was also urged to resign from his position as party leader.
