G20 Summit: Joe Biden and Modi Set to Hold High-Stakes Bilateral Meeting in New Delhi on Sept 8, Says White House

President Biden is set to attend the G20 Summit in India and hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi on September 8 in New Delhi.

G20 Summit: The White House has confirmed that President Joe Biden is scheduled to attend the G20 Summit in India next week, where he will engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8 as part of this significant event.

What did the White House say on Biden’s visit?

As the current President of the G20, India will host the Summit in New Delhi on September 9 and 10, with global leaders in attendance. During this event, President Biden plans to express his appreciation to Prime Minister Modi for his leadership within the G20, as stated by the White House.

In an official statement, The White House has said, “On Thursday (September 7), the President will travel to New Delhi, India to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit. On Friday, the President will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Over the weekend of September 9th and 10th, President Biden will actively take part in the G20 summit, joining discussions with G20 partners on various collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing global challenges. These topics will encompass the clean energy transition and the collective fight against climate change.

Several issues to be discussed

Furthermore, the leaders will work towards alleviating the economic and social repercussions arising from Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, they will seek to enhance the capabilities of multilateral development institutions, such as the World Bank, to more effectively combat poverty and address global challenges, as detailed by the White House.

The statement also read, “While in New Delhi, the President will also commend Prime Minister Modi’s leadership of the G20 and reaffirm the US commitment to the G20 as the premier forum of economic cooperation, including by hosting it in 2026.”

G20 Summit in Delhi

The G20, also known as the Group of 20, is an intergovernmental forum that includes the world’s most significant developed and developing economies. Its member nations collectively account for approximately 85 percent of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP), more than 75 percent of global trade, and comprise roughly two-thirds of the world’s population.
