Gujarat Elections Result 2022: Early indications point BJP’s landslide victory in PM Modi’s home state

Gujarat Elections Result 2022: Early indications indicate to a resounding victory for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on the home ground of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the votes are being counted in Gujarat. Notably, since 1995, the saffron party has never lost an election in Gujarat.

According to the trends up until 10:30 am, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was leading in 8 seats while Congress was leading in 24 and the BJP was leading in 146 seats. Others were moving in front on four chairs at the same time. The majority threshold in the state’s 182 Assembly seats is 92.
The AAP’s entry altered the Gujarat election, which has historically been a two-way race between the BJP and Congress, into a three-way one.

AAP and Congress compete to be the leading opposition party.

The performance of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which appear to be embroiled in a race to become the dominant Opposition party in the state, will be more closely observed in the wake of the two-phase elections, which were held earlier this month.

According to Sanjay Kumar at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in New Delhi, the BJP will see a significant morale boost if it wins big in Gujarat and secures a majority in Himachal Pradesh, where votes were to be counted for elections held on November 12.

It will motivate BJP members and strengthen the belief that the party will prevail in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kumar continued.

The Congress is concerned about maintaining its position as the principal opposition to the BJP. The results on Thursday will show whether or not the party’s covert operation was successful.

Since the party’s head, Rahul Gandhi, who had vigorously campaigned in the 2017 elections, opted to stay absent to concentrate on the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the party’s campaign has largely been carried out by local officials and has relied on door-to-door canvassing for votes.

The state’s anti-incumbency was a challenge for BJP.

Notably, the BJP has faced opposition despite holding the reins of power for 25 years. As he spoke at up to 30 electoral rallies, it is counting on Prime Minister Modi’s personality and appeal to restrain anti-incumbency.

The Gujarat elections provide a chance for the AAP, which ran a loud campaign, to establish itself as a national party and a rival to the BJP on a national scale. The AAP thinks Gujaratians will embrace its welfarism-based politics as a result of its success in the Delhi municipal elections.
