H3N2 Strikes in India! 59 Cases detected in Odisha

H3N2 Virus: 59 of the 225 samples taken in Odisha in January and February were found to be positive for H3N2 influenza, state officials reported on Saturday. According to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, H3N2 is a non-human influenza virus that typically infects pigs but has also infected humans.

H3N2 Influenza Virus Spreads in India

Director of the Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar Sanghamitra Pati stated, “Among the 225 samples collected in the months of January and February in Odisha, a total of 59 H3N2 influenza infections were detected in the state.” Fever and coughing are among the symptoms, which are similar to those of seasonal flu viruses, she said. According to Niranjan Mishra, the director of public health for Odisha, there is now “no definitive therapy available” for the virus, therefore people should closely adhere to Covid recommendations in order to keep H3N2 at bay.

H3N2 Influenza Worsens India’s Health Crisis

Although India confirms its first two influenza-related deaths, doctors say there is still no need for panic but that more surveillance and preventative measures are needed to fend off H3N2. In Karnataka, 82-year-old Hire Gowda, a diabetic who suffered from hypertension, died due to the seasonal influenza subtype on March 1. A 56-year-old lung cancer patient also passed away, according to a report from Haryana. According to information released by the union health ministry on Friday, 451 cases of the H3N2 virus have been documented in the nation between January 2 and March 5. A warning stated that masks must be used and that individuals with colds and coughs must cover their faces with handkerchiefs or pieces of cloth.
