Harsha Murder Case: 6 Accused Arrested

Sensation has spread after the murder of Bajrang Dal worker Harsha in Shimoga, Karnataka. Now the police has made a big disclosure on this murder. District SP Laxmi Prasad told a press conference on Tuesday that 6 accused involved in the murder have been arrested so far. Police said that all the accused are local residents and the police has started searching for the rest.

According to the police, out of these 6 accused, 4 are attackers and two people are going to support them. The names of the arrested accused are Kashif, Nadeem, Rehman Sharif, Nihan, Asifullah and Abdul Afnan, police said. So far 12 people have been questioned in this case.

The police have also given information about the cases registered against Harsha. The SP said that there were two cases registered against the deceased, one for inciting riots and the other for hurting religious sentiments. Both these cases were registered during 2016-17.

The deceased Harsha was 23 years old and was murdered on Sunday near Kamat Petrol Pump in Bharti Colony of Shimoga. The reason for this murder is not clear yet, but the hijab controversy is believed to be the reason behind Harsha’s murder. The family alleges that their son has been murdered for being a Hindu. Harsha was associated with the Bajrang Dal for a long time and was also a frequent participant in the protests against the wearing of hijab in schools in Karnataka. Because of this, he was also receiving constant death threats.

After the murder of Harsha, a hearing on the Hijab controversy was held in the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday. The state government argued in the court that wearing hijab is not a constitutional right. Now hearing in this case is to be held on Wednesday as well.
