India reports below one lakh cases in 24-hour, lowest in 66 days

India’s daily Covid toll dropped below 1 lakh mark for the first time in over two months. The country witnessed 86,498 new infections on Monday and 2,115 new deaths, taking the total number of overall case tally in India to 28,996,949 and deaths to 351,309, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5,842,000), Karnataka (2,707,481), Kerala (2,642,395), Tamil Nadu (2,256,681), and Andhra Pradesh (1,763,211).

Tamil Nadu recorded the most number of cases at 19,448 in the past 24 hours. It is followed by Karnataka with 11,958 new infections, while Kerala reported 9,313 cases. Maharashtra saw 10,219, and Andhra Pradesh 4,872 cases. Delhi reported 231 fresh cases and West Bengal 5,887.

India’s overall tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,89,96,554 with 13,03,702 active cases and 3,51,309 deaths so far.

According to the Health Ministry, a total of 1,82,282 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,73,41,462 till date.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 23,61,98,726 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 33,64,476 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 36,82,07,596 samples have been tested up to June 7 for Covid-19. Of these 18,73,485 samples were tested on Monday.

*The Rajasthan government on Monday announced the Unlock-2 guidelines which shall be implemented from Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 173.5 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.73 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
