Indian Railways: The East Central Railways (ECR) has announced Holi festival special trains to handle the massive surge in passenger traffic that is usually noticed during Chhath Puja, Holi, Dussehra and Diwali festivals.
According to an announcement on X, the Holi festival special train services would start operating on different dates from February’s last week until the end of March.

Indian Railways-Key Routes Covered
The special trains announced by the Indian Railways include trains on routes including Chhindwara–Jhajhapur, Jhajhapur–Chhindwara, Gorakhpur–Narkatiaganj, Katihar–Amritsar, Amritsar–Katihar and Narkatiaganj–Gorakhpur.
The routes would also include Holi special train services on routes like Gorakhpur–Sealdah, Asansol–Gorakhpur, Katihar–Tata, Bhubaneswar–Dhanbad and Anand Vihar Terminal–Malda Town. Other routes include Gorakhpur–Asansol, Puri–Patna, Patna–Puri, Tata–Katihar, Raxaul–Chalapalli and Malda Town–Anand Vihar Terminal. Others routes include Chalapalli–Raxaul, Sealdah–Gorakhpur and Dhanbad–Bhubaneswar.
The Holi special trains would operate on contrasting schedules, bi-weekly, weekly and on some specific routes, daily.
Railways Issues Advisory For Passengers
The Indian Railways has urged passengers who want to book their tickets before, during and after the Holi festival are urged to check the train timings, dates and stoppages of their respective trains before planning any form of travel.
Interested users could access detailed information via the official website of Indian Railways, the railway enquiry service or the NTES app.
The East Central Railway has also assured that the operation of new Holi special train services may also be introduced if required. It also assured railway passengers of a safe, comfortable and smooth travel experience during the pious month of Holi.
About Holi Festival
The festival of Holi would be celebrated on March 3-4, 2026 this year. The festival is celebrated to commemorate the victory of good over evil. The Holika bonfire and the festival of Holi signify the symbolic win of good over evil, of Lord Vishnu’s devotee Prahlada over the demon king and his father Hiranyakashipu and of the fire that burned down Hiranyakashipu’s demon sister Holika.
