IRCTC: Indian Railways Introduces New Rule for Tatkal Ticket! Check How You Can Get Confirm Ticket Now

IRCTC: Passengers always complain that they do not get tatkal ticket whenever they try to book as availability of tatkal tickets are closed within 2 minutes. People always demanded that Indian Railways should do something for genuine users. Now, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is planning to make e-aadhaar authentication mandatory for booking tatkal tickets.

What is New Rule for IRCTC Tatkal Ticket?

All the passengers, who mostly book or going to book tatkal train tickets, should know that IRCTC is going to mandate e-Aadhaar authentication for booking Tatkal train tickets soon. This initiative is taken by government so that misuse of booking tatkal tickets from hoarders and touts can be stopped. The idea behind new rule of IRCTC is to help real users get confirmed tatkal train tickets. The new rule of booking online tatkal train ticket with e-Aadhaar authentication is likely to start from the end of this month as per railway officials. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared this information at social media platform X on 4th June 2025.

Difference between Normal and Tatkal Train Ticket

At current, passengers can book normal train tickets up to 60 days in advance as per availability of seats. Those passengers, who have to book train ticket few days before travel, mostly do not get normal train ticket. They need to book tatkal train tickets. Tatkal train tickets are booked one day before travel. Concession is not allowed in tatkal booking.  Moreover, passengers need to pay additional charges per seat according to class selected. The Tatkal Charges have been fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 10% of basic fare for second class and 30% of basic fare for all other classes subject to minimum and maximum as given in the table below:

Who will Get Priority in Tatkal Ticket Booking?

As per IRCTC, all the users whose accounts are linked with Aadhaar card will get priority for the first 10 minutes after opening of booking for Tatkal tickets. This is done to provide benefit for genuine users. For the first 10 minutes, even all the authorized agents of IRCTC are not allowed to do any bookings for tatkal tickets. “It will become necessary to verify your IRCTC account through Aadhaar,” officials said. As per officials, estimates suggest that more than half of online tickets under the Tatkal quota are booked within the first 10 minutes of window opening.

Indian Railways provide big relief for passesengers as it is going to introduce e-aadhaar verification mandatory for online tatkal ticket booking. Moreover, those persons whose IRCTC accounts are linked with Aadhaar will get priority booking for first 10 minutes.
