On Monday, the famous Varanasi Langda mango, which has a geographical indication tag, will be delivered directly to Sharjah from a recently built pack house in Varanasi.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, would send 4-5 tonnes of Banarasi Langda mangoes and other perishable goods to Sharjah from the Varanasi airport.

The mangoes and other food items would be flown to Sharjah, according to Dr. CB Singh, deputy general manager of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

Separately, from Mumbai to Dubai and Doha, a 40-foot reefer container with 30 to 35 tonnes of green chilies will be shipped by sea. Additionally, preparations are being made to export additional goods, like okra.

According to Singh, the initiatives are intended to convert farmers into exporters and get rid of intermediaries. The income of farmers will also increase as a result of this.

A 10 km distance from the airport is where the Integrated Pack House for Food and Vegetable Export has been constructed. It provides one-window export clearance and is set up to manage exports by sea, land, and air.

“At the pack house, perishable food items will be prepared in accordance with global standards. The pack house is accredited by APEDA for export as per international standards. It is built in an area of about 4,461 square feet at a cost of Rs 15. 78 crores. Farmers will also be trained here to prepare products according to the demands of the international market. This will be the third integrated packhouse in UP, after Saharanpur and Lucknow,” Singh said.

While describing the packing procedure, Singh stated that in order for fruits and vegetables to satisfy international standards, they must go through a number of steps in the integrated pack house. “Because of this, their flavour, freshness, and other qualities remain unaltered. To ensure that these products are free of pests and diseases of any kind, special precautions are taken. The equipment engaged in the pack house are indigenous. Langda mangoes are exported only after undergoing vapor heat and hot water treatment,” he said.
