Luna-25 Crash Sparks Concern for Chandrayaan – 3; Will it affect India’s lunar mission? Here’s what ISRO says

ISRO: Russia’s lunar mission suffered a setback as Luna-25’s attempt to reach the moon ended in failure. Russia’s aspirations remain unfulfilled following the unsuccessful landing of Luna-25 on the lunar surface. It’s worth noting that Luna-25 was launched after Chandrayaan and had even reached its intended landing spot on the moon. However, it has now raised concerns on India’s mission regarding its potential affect on Chandrayaan. ISRO has, however, responded to the incident as well.

Luna-25 crashes on moon

Russia’s space agency, Roscosmos, announced on Sunday that its Luna-25 spacecraft had experienced a crash on the Moon. According to reports, the robotic unmanned lander hit the moon’s surface after errant orbiting. According to the ESA, the problem started when the spacecraft was put into a pre-landing orbit and lost contact on Saturday. For the first time since the Soviet Union’s lunar exploration programme ended in 1976, Russia resumed lunar exploration with this mission.

Roscosmos explained in a telegram post that an unusual situation happened during the mission at the automated station, which prevented the planned alteration of the spacecraft’s course according to predefined parameters. The original plan was for the spacecraft to touch down on the Moon’s south pole on Monday.
