Mahatma Gandhi Death Anniversary: On January 30, 2025, Indiamarked the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, remembering his pivotal contributions to the nation and his unwavering commitment to truth and non-violence. This day is observed as Martyrs' Day or Shaheed Diwas, a solemn occasion to honor Mahatma Gandhi and all those who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom.

Tributes from PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt homage to Mahatma Gandhi, recognising his profound impact on India’s journey towards independence.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed, "Tributes to Pujya Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals motivate us to build a developed India. I also pay tributes to all those martyred for our nation and recall their service as well as sacrifices." The Prime Minister emphasized the continued relevance of Gandhi’s ideals in shaping India’s growth.

Political Leaders Pay Respects

Several political leaders also shared their tributes to the Father of the Nation, underscoring Gandhi’s lasting influence.

Union Minister and BJP President J.P. Nadda highlighted Gandhi's vision of self-reliance, which remains significant in modern India. Nadda wrote on X, "I pay my heartfelt tribute to the eternal worshiper of truth and non-violence, the great leader of the Indian freedom movement, 'Father of the Nation' Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary." He further emphasized, "Bapu's ideas centred on Swadeshi and self-reliance are paving the way for an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat. His life ideals will always inspire the entire humanity."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared his respects, recalling Gandhi's global influence and his role in uniting India during the freedom struggle. Shah wrote, "On behalf of the grateful nation, I pay my tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the leading figure of the Indian freedom movement, who popularised the Indian values of truth, non-violence, and the fight against injustice across the world." He further added, "Mahatma Gandhi strengthened the freedom movement by binding the country in the thread of unity. His thoughts towards cleanliness, self-reliance, and the empowerment of rural India will continue to inspire the countrymen."

Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also took to social media to pay his tribute. He wrote, "Gandhiji is not just a person, he is the soul of India, and is alive in every Indian even today. The power of truth, non-violence and fearlessness can shake the roots of even the biggest empire – the entire world takes inspiration from these ideals of his. Hundreds of salutations to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma, our Bapu on his Martyrdom Day."

Remembering Gandhi’s Legacy

Other leaders, such as Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, also paid tribute to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

Rijiju posted, "Respectful tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, a worshiper of truth, non-violence, and harmony, on his death anniversary! He strengthened the foundation of the freedom struggle by inspiring people against British colonialism. Mahatma Gandhi taught humanity and morality to the whole world."

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed, "Tribute to the great leader of the freedom movement, 'Father of Nation' Mahatma Gandhi, on his death anniversary. The teachings of revered 'Bapu' and his life of sacrifice pave the way for world peace." He urged the people to continue following Gandhi’s principles, adding, "Come, let us all resolve to build a 'Naye Bharat-Viksit Bharat' by following the path of truth, non-violence, and Swadeshi shown by 'Bapu.'"

Mahatma Gandhi, revered as the Father of the Nation, remains an eternal symbol of peace, unity, and non-violence. His legacy continues to inspire movements for justice and equality worldwide. On his death anniversary, leaders across the nation reaffirm their commitment to his ideals, ensuring that his teachings remain a guiding force for the future of India.
