Mumbai Police receives threat by Pakistan number warning ’26/11 type attack’

Mumbai Police: Recently, the Mumbai Traffic Police’s control room has received a few text messages over its WhatsApp helpline number that suggests a threat of “26/11-type Mumbai attack”. This threat has been sent by a Pakistani number, confirmed the police.

According to Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar,  the message was received at around 11:00 PM. “Text messages were received on the WhatsApp number of the Mumbai police’s traffic helpline operated from the control room located at Worli in central Mumbai around 11 pm on Friday,” the official said. “In the series of messages, the sender has threatened about a 26/11-type attack”, he added further.

“It was also mentioned that some of their aides are working in India. Prima facie, the threat messages came from a number that has the country code of Pakistan,” Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar said

One of the police officers said that the person who threatened the Mumbai Police belongs to Pakistan and more people are helping him to proceed with the attack. The threatening person had shared some contact numbers and also said to the police that the attack could be the same as Udaipur tailor and Sidhu Moose Wala’s killing.

“We are probing the origin of the threat messages. We will soon trace the sender. We are also taking all necessary precautions in the city in view of the threat message,” said a police officer.

About 26/11 attack

In the 26/11 Mumbai attack, a total of 175 people died including 18 security personnel and 9 attackers, and injured more than 300 people. The attack took place on November 26, 2008, after 10 members of Lashkar-e-taiba, an Islamist terrorist group in Pakistan.

The group attacked 12 coordinated shootings and bombings that lasted for four days all over Mumbai. The attack began on 26 November and lasted till Saturday, November 29, 2008.
