'Must Decide How to Fight Elections ..,' Kapil Sibal Breaks Silence on INDIA Bloc's Weaknesses, Reveals BJP’s Startegy for Victory

INDIA bloc: The opposition parties had formed the INDIA alliance to give a tough fight to the NDA. Although the INDIA bloc could not return to power during the Lok Sabha elections, it was successful in stopping the BJP from reaching the majority mark on its own.

However, in several recent assembly elections, its scattered image did not work in its favour. This directly benefited the BJP. The party, which earlier had to rely on allies to form the central government, secured a massive victory in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi elections after the INDIA alliance weakened.

On the other hand, major parties in the INDIA alliance, like Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), faced electoral defeats. In the Delhi assembly elections, Congress failed to win even a single seat. Meanwhile, AAP won less than half the seats compared to the previous election.

Now, as discussions about the INDIA alliance continue, leaders of its major parties are sharing their thoughts on the alliance’s success and failure. They are also speaking about the BJP’s winning strategy.

Kapil Sibal’s Advice to INDIA Alliance

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal recently spoke about the defeat of Congress and its allies in the assembly elections. His statement reflected his concern over the alliance's performance.

News agency ANI shared his statement on X (formerly Twitter), quoting him: "Congress party always tries to work together and to move ahead with consent. This is true that there are problems at times. In the last election in Bihar, Congres were given seats but they could not win and RJD said that they could not come to power because of Congress."

Sibal further said, "All the parties (of INDIA alliance) will have to decide how to contest elections. In the BJP, the advantage is that there is a single command and they fight elections under that single command, hence they benefit too. In Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, Congress fought in alliance and they got the benefit. They (INDIA alliance) will have to sit and work things out."

Where Did INDIA Alliance Succeed?

After the Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections were held in several states. The INDIA bloc achieved success in some of these.

• In Jammu and Kashmir, the INDIA alliance got favourable results. However, Congress did not perform well here. The National Conference played a key role in forming the government.
• In Haryana, Congress faced defeat in the assembly elections. Many alliance partners contested separately.
• In Jharkhand, the INDIA bloc won, but the success was credited more to Hemant Soren than Rahul Gandhi.
• In Tamil Nadu, during the Lok Sabha elections, the INDIA bloc led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) secured a major victory. They won 39 seats, including 10 by Congress.

Despite some victories, the INDIA alliance continues to struggle with internal differences and electoral challenges.
