NewsClick Case: One of the most serious allegations revealed in the email correspondence between the petitioners and individuals based in China, according to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who is representing the Delhi Police Special Cell before the Delhi High Court, is that they intended to create a map of India without Arunachal Pradesh and refer to it as the country’s northern border.
Delhi High Court Takes Action
On Friday, the Delhi High Court requested the Delhi Police to respond to applications filed by Newsclick’s founder and editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha seeking an order to quash a FIR that had been filed against him and others. The motion also contested the trial court’s decision to grant him and HR Director Amit Chakravarty remand in the case.
Delhi Police Accuse Newsclick Founder of Geopolitical Manipulation with Shanghai-Based Business
On Wednesday, the Delhi Police made allegations that Prabir Purkayastha, the founder of NewsClick, had worked with a Shanghai-based business to spread the myth that Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh are disputed areas. Through a remand application, the Delhi Police informed the court that they had received top-secret information indicating that Prabir Purkayastha, Neville Roy Singham (who is rumoured to be an active member of the Communist Party of China’s Propaganda Department), and a few other Chinese employees of the StarStream company, owned by Neville Roy Singham and based in Shanghai, exchanged emails revealing their desire to portray Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh as outside of India.
