Noida International Airport: RK Singh, the Chief Executive Officer of Noida International Airport, has remarked that all arrangements are in place for the historic first flight of IndiGo on June 15, 2026.

According to media reports, IndiGo would operate the highest number of flights in the initial phase followed by Air India Express and Akasa Air.

Noida International Airport-What’s Special?

The long-awaited opening of the Noida International Airport (DXN) on June 15 marks one of the most significant infrastructure developments in northern India in recent years. Located in Jewar, this airport is designed to serve the National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas, and is expected to change the way air travel, trade and regional connectivity function in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

For years, the NCR has depended heavily on the Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is already one of the busiest airports in Asia. With rising passenger traffic, increasing cargo demand and limited room for expansion, the pressure on Delhi’s main airport has been steadily growing. The launch of the Jewar airport is seen as a timely response to this challenge.

A Major Infrastructure Push for Uttar Pradesh

The new airport is not just an aviation project; it is a large-scale development engine for Uttar Pradesh. The region around Jewar was once primarily agricultural and semi-urban. With the arrival of the airport, this area is rapidly transforming into an economic hub.

One of the biggest benefits for Uttar Pradesh will be job creation. From construction workers to airport staff, logistics professionals, hospitality workers and retail employees, thousands of direct and indirect jobs are expected to emerge. This will provide employment opportunities not only for people in Jewar but also for nearby districts such as Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh and Mathura.

In addition, the airport is expected to attract industries such as logistics parks, warehousing centres, aviation-linked manufacturing and IT services. These developments can significantly improve the economic profile of western Uttar Pradesh, which has long been overshadowed by Delhi’s dominance. The airport has the potential to ease long-standing pressure on the Indira Gandhi International Airport, allowing both airports to function more efficiently.
