As Holi 2025 approaches, a major difference in how the festival is being handled in different parts of India has sparked debate. In North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, preparations for the festival are in full swing. CM Yogi Adityanath has instructed officers like Anuj Chaudhary to ensure smooth and safe celebrations.

However, in the southern city of Hyderabad, the administration has imposed restrictions on Holi celebrations. The Telangana government, led by CM Revanth Reddy, has announced several rules, particularly in areas considered the stronghold of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. Officials say these restrictions aim to maintain peace and public order.

Hyderabad Administration’s Strict Rules for Holi 2025

According to a press release by Hyderabad and Cyberabad police, throwing colors or colored water on unwilling people, properties, or vehicles in public places will be prohibited. Group movement of two-wheelers and other vehicles on roads and public spaces will also be restricted.

These orders will be in effect in Hyderabad from March 13 at 6 PM to March 15 at 6 AM. In Cyberabad, the restrictions will last 24 hours, from March 14 at 6 AM to March 15 at 6 AM. Authorities claim these steps are necessary to prevent any disruption of law and order.

Debate Over Different Rules for the Same Festival

Hyderabad has a significant Muslim population, with the 2011 census showing 51.45% Hindus and 43.89% Muslims. While the administration says these restrictions are precautionary, many are questioning why such rules are not being enforced in other parts of India.

In contrast, Uttar Pradesh has taken a different stand. Officers like Anuj Chaudhary have stated that those who do not wish to play Holi should stay indoors instead of restricting others.

The difference in how Holi is being handled in different parts of the country has led to heated discussions. Many see it as a political decision, while others argue it is about maintaining public order.
