In a charged public rally in Dahod, Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reignited national pride by referencing a past military success involving India and Pakistan. Addressing thousands, PM Modi declared:

“When the Pakistani Army dared to act against us, our armed forces made them eat dust. Our soldiers showed Pakistan their place.”

This statement, interpreted as a nod to Operation Sindoor (a name informally used to highlight India’s swift and strong military response in past border escalations), sparked patriotic applause from the audience. The Prime Minister emphasized India’s growing military confidence and the strength of the armed forces under his leadership.

Context and Assertion

While PM Modi did not specify a particular operation by name, his tone and wording were widely associated with retaliatory actions by India post-Uri and Balakot, where India launched surgical strikes and airstrikes in response to Pakistan-backed terrorism.

“India does not provoke, but if provoked, it knows how to respond with double the intensity,” the Prime Minister asserted.

Political Implication

With the Lok Sabha elections approaching and Modi’s emphasis on national security, such references are being seen as part of the BJP’s larger narrative around strong leadership and zero tolerance for terrorism.

Opposition parties, however, have criticised the PM’s remarks, accusing him of politicising military actions for electoral gains.

PM Modi's rally in Dahod, a tribal-dominated region of Gujarat, also served as a symbolic outreach to underdeveloped areas. By linking national security with regional development, the Prime Minister positioned India's military strength as a source of pride for even the remotest corners of the country.

“From border villages to tribal belts, every Indian should feel protected and empowered,” he said, reinforcing the message that India’s rising global stature and military resolve are achievements shared by all citizens, regardless of geography or background.
