In a landmark decision on New Year 2025, the Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the extension of the One-time Special Package on Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer. This move is aimed at ensuring the continued availability of DAP at affordable prices for farmers, supporting their efforts in sustaining India's agricultural growth. The subsidy will be extended from January 1, 2025, with an estimated financial commitment of up to Rs. 3,850 crore.

PM Modi Shares Pride in Farmers’ Hard Work and Dedication

PM Modi highlighted the government's unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers, expressing pride in their contributions.

In his tweet, he stated, "Ours is a Government fully committed to furthering the welfare of farmers. We are proud of all our farmer sisters and brothers who work hard to feed our nation. The first Cabinet of 2025 is dedicated to enhancing prosperity for our farmers. I am glad that key decisions have been taken in this regard."

Extension of Special DAP Subsidy to Ensure Affordable Fertilizer

The Special Package on DAP will be provided at a rate of Rs. 3,500 per metric ton (MT) over and above the National Buffer Stock (NBS) subsidy, ensuring that farmers have continued access to essential fertilizers at reasonable prices. This decision builds on the earlier package approved in July 2024, with the total financial impact since April 2024 expected to surpass Rs. 6,475 crore, reaffirming the government’s commitment to farmers' welfare.

Supporting Kharif and Rabi Seasons with Guaranteed DAP Supply

This extended subsidy will ensure a smooth and uninterrupted supply of DAP for the upcoming Kharif and Rabi seasons. Amid global market challenges, the government has guaranteed that farmers will receive fertilizers at subsidised rates, enabling them to continue producing crops efficiently and feeding the nation.
