Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana: As the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) marks a decade since its inception on April 8, 2015, the scheme stands as a pillar of support for India’s middle and lower-middle class. From enabling entrepreneurship to empowering self-reliant livelihoods, PMMY has touched the lives of lakhs of beneficiaries nationwide. In particular, stories emerging from Gujarat, especially in Rajkot, highlight how the Mudra Yojana has become a catalyst for financial independence and small business growth.

The beneficiaries of Mudra Yojana in Gujarat have expressed immense gratitude for the initiative. In Rajkot, several individuals shared how the scheme proved instrumental in helping them become financially independent and self-employed.

"Small businessmen like us lack capital. PM Modi started the PM Mudra Yojana keeping people like us in mind. It's because of his policies that we are getting loans easily from the bank," he said.

The beneficiary runs his business in Gokul Nagar, located on the ring road of Rajkot. In 2018, he planned to start a startup, but he did not have enough money. He got information about the PM Mudra Yojana and contacted the bank. After this, he got a loan and expanded his business.

PMMY Aims to Empower Small Entrepreneurs Across India

The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana was introduced with the sole aim of offering collateral-free loans up to ₹10 lakh to support non-corporate, non-farm small businesses. These loans are disbursed through banks, NBFCs, and other financial institutions to aspiring entrepreneurs, many of whom belong to the middle and lower-income groups.

The beneficiaries of PMMY include shopkeepers, small manufacturers, service providers, and artisans, who otherwise face challenges accessing formal credit systems. The initiative is not just supporting individual livelihoods but also contributing to employment generation across sectors.

How Mudra Yojana is Fueling Grassroots Development in Gujarat

In Gujarat, the scheme has witnessed remarkable adoption, with thousands of beneficiaries availing funds to kickstart or expand their enterprises. This access to financial resources has helped local businesses flourish, particularly in cities like Rajkot, Surat and Ahmedabad.

The scheme has enabled entrepreneurs to purchase equipment, expand operations, and even hire more employees — thus making a ripple effect on the local economy. The PMMY beneficiaries in Gujarat are now contributing actively to the state’s development while also serving as role models for others in their communities.
