Republic Day 2023: Multi-layer security cover in Delhi ahead of parade

Republic Day 2023: Security has been beefed up across the national capital entire for the 74th Republic Day parade on Thursday. Multi-layer security cover has been put in place for the parade to avoid any untoward incident. Repoprts said Delhi Police is patrolling and conducting anti-sabotage checks and verification drives to thwart any mishap.

Security is especially tight along the Kartavya Path where the celebrations will take place. As many as 6,000 security personnel have been deployed in the the entire district and 24 help desks set up for those attending the celebrations, said reports.

Police said, around 65,000 people are likely to attend the Republic Day celebrations.

Parade to begin at 10.30 am

The Republic Day parade, which will begin at around 10:30 am, will be a unique mix of the country’s military prowess and cultural diversity, depicting the country’s growing indigenous capabilities, Nari Shakti, and the emergence of a ‘New India’.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Pranav Tayal said, this year’s entry is based on QR code given on passes. No person without a valid pass or ticket would be allowed.

“Over 150 CCTV cameras have been installed and some of them also have the facial recognition system,” the DCP said.

Police personnel have been checking vehicles thoroughly and heavy barricading is put in place at intersections and checkpoints. Since morning today, movement of vehicles was stopped on Kartavya Path, Janpath, India Gate, and Copernicus Marg.

150 CCTV camera installed

An NSG-DRDO anti-drone team has been deployed for the event. Around 150 CCTV high-resolution cameras are keeping a vigil on Kartavya Path, formerly known as Rajpath. CCTV cameras are also installed in vital areas with some of them having facial recognition facility.

Officials said, vehicles entering the city are being checked and extra pickets have also been set up on the borders of the national capital.

Besides, anti-sabotage checks are being conducted in markets, high footfall areas and prominent places by the Bomb Disposal Team along with dog squads.

Verification drives are being carried out in hotels, dharamshalas, guest houses, cinema halls, parking lots and bus terminals for the last two to three months.

In the run up to Republic Day, the Delhi Police asked people through social media to alert them about any suspicious person, activity or article.

Delhi traffic advisory for R-Day parade

The Republic Day parade will start at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk and move towards Red Fort. This parade will pass through Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, Subhash Chandra Bose Golchakkar, Tilak Marg and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg and Red Fort. Traffic has been diverted and many roads have been closed. Metro services will also be affected by this. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made special arrangements for this.

No traffic will be allowed on the Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate till the parade is over. There will be no cross-traffic on Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road and Kartabya Path. The “C”-Hexagon-India Gate will remain closed for traffic from 9.15 am till the parade crosses Tilak Marg. No traffic will be allowed from 10.30 am on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Subhash Marg in both directions.
