Republic Day 2025: India marked its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, with an impressive display of national pride at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. This year’s celebrations focused on the theme of "Nari Shakti," highlighting women empowerment and the nation’s achievements.
Empowering Women on Republic Day 2025
A significant feature of Republic Day 2025 was the all-women contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Led by Assistant Commandant Aishwarya Joy M., the 148-member group demonstrated the strength and capabilities of Indian women in various challenging roles, including anti-Naxal, anti-insurgency, and law-enforcement operations. This contingent stood as a powerful symbol of empowerment and the contribution of women in India’s security forces.
Additionally, the Ministry of Women and Child Development presented a tableau that showcased women’s journey from childhood to self-reliance. This tableau focused on maternal care, life cycle continuity, and the importance of women in leadership roles, highlighting how India empowers its women at every stage of life.
Delhi Police All-Women Band and Other Women-Led Contributions
The Republic Day 2025 festivities also featured the Delhi Police All-Women Band, led by Band Master Ruyangunuo Kense. This band, consisting of four women Sub-Inspectors and 64 women constables, performed for the second time at the Republic Day celebrations. The women’s performance added to the event’s theme of Nari Shakti, demonstrating their contribution to public service and law enforcement.
Another notable tableau, from the Ministry of Rural Development, presented the empowering efforts under the "Lakhpati Didi Yojana," which highlights India’s support for rural women to become self-sufficient and economically empowered.
President Droupadi Murmu and President Subianto at the Heart of Celebrations
The Republic Day 2025 ceremony was presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, who unfurled the national flag at Kartavya Path. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, marking the strengthening of India-Indonesia relations. The two leaders were escorted to the ceremony in the traditional buggy by the President’s Bodyguard, reviving a 40-year-old tradition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, welcomed President Murmu and President Subianto, further adding to the grandeur of the event.
Showcasing India's Strength and Unity
This year's Republic Day celebrations were not only about honoring Nari Shakti but also highlighted India’s unity, cultural richness, and military power. The event marked 75 years since the enactment of India’s Constitution, with the theme "Jan Bhagidari" (public participation) taking center stage. Cultural artists performed traditional songs like Sare Jahan Se Achha using instruments such as Shehnai, Dhol, and Nadaswaram, creating an atmosphere of national pride.
