Sharad Pawar: Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and a seasoned politician from Maharashtra, planned to resign from his position two days ago, but an 18-member committee he constituted on Friday rejected his decision. Sharad Pawar established the 18-person committee to elect the new national leader of the party.

Right now, the nation, the party, and the state needs you-Party spokespersons

‘Who would succeed the current NCP chairman was to be decided by the NCP committee. Sharad Pawar should continue to serve as the NCP’s president,’ according to a resolution that party spokespersons handed to Praful Patel. ‘We can make working presidents, but Sharad Pawar should be president,” they declared. ‘Right now, the nation, the party, and the state need you. The cornerstone of this celebration is you. You are regarded as a recognised national leader.’

Some Major Points On Today’s NCP Meeting

  • As Instructed by Sharad Pawar, the committee entrusted with selecting a replacement will convene today to discuss the next course of action. According to senior NCP leader Praful Patel, the request to reject Sharad Pawar’s resignation will be made during today’s committee meeting. By alone, Praful Patel will propose to reject Pawar’s resignation. The committee, which was formed by the 82-year-old Pawar to choose his successor, is made up of Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule, Bhujbal, and former Union politician Parful Patel.
  • Under the condition of anonymity, NCP leaders told PTI that Supriya Sule, a Baramati Lok Sabha member and the daughter of Ajit Pawar, is likely to lead the party nationally while Ajit Pawar will oversee the Maharashtra branch. These leaders claimed that Supriya Sule had established herself as a productive member of parliament and had connections to political leaders from all parties. On the other side, authorities informed that Ajit Pawar has a solid grip on the state organisation and is largely regarded as a capable administrator.
  • After Sharad Pawar announced his resignation, NCP leaders strongly objected and urged him to revoke it. Sharad Pawar informed his party members on Thursday that ‘Many colleagues from outside Maharashtra have come to this place” following his announcement of the decision. Tomorrow they want to talk to me. We’ll meet tomorrow night, and after a day or two, we’ll make a final decision while maintaining your feelings and the feelings of your coworkers in strict confidence.’
  • Chhagan Bhujbal, a senior NCP official and former state minister, had previously told PTI that Suriya Sule should assume the party’s national mantle while Ajit Pawar should be in charge of the state organisation. But he added that this was just his personal viewpoint.
  • Top opposition figures from all around the nation called the NCP patriarch today to urge Sharad Pawar to continue serving as the party’s leader. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, and MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, called Supriya Sule today as Sharad Pawar tried to bring together opposition figures in advance of the 2024 elections.
  • At the launch of his autobiography on Tuesday, Sharad Pawar announced his resignation, shocking many party leaders and employees. Party officials and employees reacted angrily to his choice, and several sobbed amid cries for Mr. Pawar to remain the NCP leader.
  • Following his resignation, Sharad Pawar was met by his nephew Ajit Pawar, who reported him as saying, “We all met Sharad Pawar today and urged him to consider the demands of the workers and he said he will take 2-3 days to think over his decision.”
  • So far, Sharad Pawar has not demonstrated any desire to change his decision. “It is true that before making such a decision, it should have been discussed with the coworkers,” Sharad Pawar said to the visibly upset party members. But I took a direct action because I knew you would never agree.
  • On Wednesday, NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad resigned from his position as National General Secretary, joining a large number of other office holders in doing so. Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar’s nephew and the former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, is the subject of rumours regarding his potential alliance with the BJP.
