Snowfall Update: Uttarakhand and J&K under alert, tourists must note THESE dates

Snowfall Update: Fresh snowfall and rain in landlocked areas bordering Kashmir have caused nighttime temperatures in the entire valley, with the exception of Pahalgam and Gulmarg, to exceed freezing points. According to the Meteorological Department, Sonamarg, Gulmarg, Tangdhar (in Kupwara), and other long stretches of Kashmir have received new snowfall (fresh snowfall). In the north and centre of Kashmir, itclaimed, it had been lightly raining.

Snowfall to increase further

By evening or night, the amount of snowfall or rain will gradually rise, according to the Meteorological Office, as the day goes on. Today, the plains of Jammu are expected to have widespread light to moderate snowfall or rain, according to the Meteorological Department. Heavy snowfall is possible in a few locations, mostly in the upper reaches.

On Friday, there is a chance of light snowfall or rain in certain areas of Jammu & Kashmir. However, the rest of the week will be largely dry until January 17. The lowest nighttime temperature will rise above zero in all of the valley, with the exception of Pahalgam and Gulmarg, providing reprieve from the bitterly cold circumstances.

Officials said that on Tuesday night, Srinagar Weather measured a low temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius. A minimum temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Qazigund, a minimum of 0.7 degrees Celsius in South Kashmir, and a minimum of 1.5 degrees Celsius in Kupwara.

Chillai Kalan continues its impact

A low temperature of – 0.3 degrees Celsius was reported at Pahalgam in the Anantnag district. A low temperature of minus three degrees Celsius, he claimed, was recorded in the Baramulla district’s Gulmarg.

‘Chillai Kalan,’ the 40-day period of hardest weather with the greatest likelihood of snowfall, is presently gripping Kashmir. Between December 21 and January 30, Chillai Kalan takes place. Following then, “Chillai Khurd” (a little cold) lasts for 20 days, followed by “Chillai Bachha” for 10 days.
