Supreme Court’s order to release 3 Chhawla rape-murder convicts

Delhi LG VK Saxena has allowed the Delhi government to file a review petition against the acquittal of three convicts in a rape and murder case in 2012. The Delhi government will file a review petition against the release of the three convicts in the Chhawla gangrape and murder case and against the Supreme Court’s decision.

As per the information received, the LG has also approved the appointment of SG Tushar Mehta and Additional SG Aishwarya Bhati to represent the case.

Lieutenant Governor has given approval to file a review petition

A senior official said that Saxena has also approved the services of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to represent the Delhi government in the matter. “The Lieutenant Governor has given approval to file a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict acquitting the three accused,” the official said.

Accused had moved the apex court

A trial court in Delhi had awarded death sentence to all three accused in the gang rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl on February 9, 2012 in Chhawla area of ​​Dwarka, which was upheld by the Delhi High Court. The accused had moved the apex court against the sentence, which in its judgment dated November 7, 2022, had set aside the trial court and the high court’s judgement.
